Day, night, weather and holidays on Ocean Ave

Published

Ad-free post. SeeMe City sells signs on its street; this post explains how it works.

In short: SeeMe City's street is never the same twice. Day and night follow Miami's real clock, with pastel buildings by day and neon by night. The weather follows the National Weather Service at Miami airport, and the street is decorated for holidays such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, New Year and July 4.

Does the street change from day to night?

Yes. SeeMe City follows Miami's real clock, so Ocean Ave is pastel by day and neon by night. By day you see soft colors and a blue sky. Around sunrise and sunset the light turns warm and golden. After dark the windows light up and the signs glow a little.

Ocean Ave by day: pastel buildings with signs on every one, palm trees and a bus on the street.

What time does the street turn to night?

It fades from day to night between roughly 6:30 PM and 8 PM, Miami time. After that it stays fully dark until about 5:45 AM, then fades back to day by about 7 AM. From about 7 AM to 6:30 PM it is full daylight. Nothing switches all at once, so dusk and dawn look like dusk and dawn.

How do I see the street at night right now?

Open the menu, find Time of day and choose Night. The choices are Live, Day and Night. Live follows Miami's real clock, and it is the default. Pick Day or Night to see the street in that light, then switch back to Live whenever you like. Your choice only changes what you see, not what anyone else sees.

Is the weather on Ocean Ave real?

Yes. The weather follows the National Weather Service at Miami airport. When it rains in Miami, it rains on Ocean Ave. The street checks the weather every 15 minutes.

What does each kind of weather look like?

Rain falls across the street, a storm adds harder rain and lightning, clouds drift across the sky, and fog turns the street hazy. The sky also turns gray on cloudy, rainy, stormy and foggy days. On a clear day it stays blue.

Where can I see Miami's time and weather?

At the top of the menu. The line under the street name shows Miami's time, the temperature and the weather. On a holiday it also names the theme, such as Halloween on Ocean Ave.

Which holidays does the street celebrate?

Ocean Ave is decorated for New Year, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, July 4, Halloween, Thanksgiving and December's winter lights. Here is what each one looks like.

  • New Year: fireworks and party lights, from New Year's Eve evening into New Year's morning.
  • Valentine's week, Feb 10 to 14: hearts and pink lights.
  • St. Patrick's Day, March 15 to 17: green lights.
  • July 4, July 1 to 5: red, white and blue lights and fireworks.
  • Halloween, all of October: orange and purple lights, bats, pumpkins, a ghost, a scarecrow and a little fog.
  • Thanksgiving week: warm lights and falling leaves.
  • Winter lights in December: colored lights on the roofs and the palm trees.

Why does the street follow the real clock and weather?

It keeps the street from looking the same every time. The street looks different at lunch than at midnight, and different in a storm than in sunshine. A visit in October also looks different from a visit in December. The clock and the weather are Miami's own, not made up.

What does this mean for a business with a sign?

Your sign is seen in every light, so make one that reads in all of them. It stays up day and night, in sun, rain and holiday lights. On a foggy or stormy day the street looks hazy, so strong contrast helps. Check your sign both ways before you pay: the lease form has a See it at night button. What coupon ideas fit each season?

Match the offer to the date. You can change your coupon any time, so an offer can follow the street. These are only ideas.

  • October: a Halloween treat or a late-night special.
  • November: a Thanksgiving week offer.
  • December: a gift or a winter special.
  • February: a Valentine's offer for two.
  • July: a July 4 weekend deal.
